Angel and Religion

This is Angel. She is 11 years old and lives on Ahuwair Beach near Maumere. She is very catholic and in september she will have her first communion.

Her English is very good for her age. Sometimes she pronounces the "s" more like a "sh".

On Angels parents request, Raphaël did a very nice banner for her communion.

Das ist Angel. Sie ist elf Jahre alt und lebt am Ahuwair Strand in der Nähe von Maumere. Sie ist sehr katholisch und im September hat sie ihre erste Kommunion.

Ihr Englisch ist sehr gut für ihr Alter. Manchmal betont sie das "s" wie ein "Sch".

Auf Wunsch von Angels Eltern hat Raphael für sie ein schönes Plakat für die Kommunion gemalt.

Elle, c'est Angel. Elle a onze ans et vit à la plage de Ahuwair près de Maumere. Elle est catholique et en septembre elle a sa première communion.

Son anglais est très bien. Des fois elle prononce le "s" comme un "j".

Raphael a déssiné un très joli panneau pour sa communion sur la demande des parents d'Angel.

After a good game of Uno she started the following conversation with me.

Nach einer guten Uno-Partie begann sie mit mir die folgende Diskussion.

Apres une partie d'Uno, elle commencait cette discussion avec moi:

Angel: Are you catholic? (Bist du katholisch? / Est-ce que tu est catholique?)

Oli: No

Angel: Protestant?

Oli: No

Angel: Mushlim?

Oli: No

Angel: Hindu?

Oli: No

Angel: Then you must be Buddhist? (Dann must du Buddhist sein / Alors t'es buddhiste?)

Oli: No

Angel: What are you then? (Was bist du denn sonst? / Qu'est-ce que t'es alors?)

Oli: Nothing (Nichts / Rien)

Angel: You must be catholic? (Du bist sicherlich katholisch? / T'es sûrement catholique?)

Oli: No, I'm not. I d'ont have a religion. (Nein, bin ich nicht. Ich habe keine Religion.

/ Non, pas du tout. Je n'ai pas de religion.)

Angel: Why? (Warum? / Pourquoi?)

Oli: Not everyone has a religion. (Nicht jedermann hat eine Religion. / Pas tout le monde

a une religion.)

Angel: In Indonesia everyone has one. (In Indonesien schon. / En Indonesie oui)

Oli: Not in Switzerland. (Nicht aber in der Schweiz. / Mais pas en Suisse.)

Angel: Why you don't have? (Warum hast du keine? / Pourquoi tu n'en as pas?)

Oli: My mother don't have, my father don't have, so I don't have one. (Meine Mutter hat keine, mein Vater hat keine, also habe auch ich keine. / Ma maman

n'en a pas, mon papa non plus, alors moi non plus.)

Angel: But Flo is catholique? (Aber Flo ist katholisch? / Mais Flo est catholique?)

Oli: Yes

Angel: So you have to be catholique. (Also musst du auch katholisch sein. / Alors tu dois

être catholique aussi.)

Oli: No, why? (Nein, warum? / Non, pourquoi?)

Angel: When you marry Flo you will become a catholic! (Wenn du Flo heiratest wirst du

katholisch. / Quand tu vas marier Flo tu va être catholique!)

Oli: No, not at all! (Nein, sicher nicht! / Non, pas du tout!)

Angel: Yes you have to or you cannot marry Flo. (Doch du wirst, ansonsten kannst du sie

nicht heiraten. / Si, sinon tu peux pas la marier!)

Oli: Okay, I did not know that. (Okay, das habe ich nicht gewusst. / Okay, je ne savais

pas ça.)

Angel: Do you read the bible? (Liest du die Bibel? / Lis-tu la Bible?)

Oli: No, do you? (Nein, und du? / Non, et toi?)

Angel: Yes, of course, i have to, i am catholic. (Natürlich, i muss, bin ja katholisch. / Bien sur,

je dois la lire, je suis cahtolique.)

You read the Q'ouran? (Liest du den Koran? / Lis-tu le Coran?)

Oli: No, I don't read any religious books. (Nein, ich lese keine religiösen Bücher. /

Non, je ne lis pas des livres religieux.)

Angel: Do you know Jeshush? (Kennst du Jesus? / Connais-tu Jesus?)

Oli: Yes, I know Jesus. (Ja ich kenne Jesus. / Oui, je connais Jesus.)

Angel: How to you know Jeshush, if you don't read the bible? (Wie kannst du Jesus kennen,

wenn du die Bibel gar nicht liest? / Comment peux-tu connaitre Jesus si tu ne lis pas la

Bible?)

Oli: Well, everyone knows Jesus, like Micheal Jackson or Santa Claus. (Na, alle Welt

kennt doch den Jesus, so wie Michael Jackson oder den Nickolaus.

Mais tout le monde connait Jesus, comme Michael Jackson ou le père noël.)

Angel: What? (Was? / Quoi?)

Oli: Nothing... (Nichts... / Rien...)

Angel: Do you love Jeshush? (Liebst du Jesus? / Aimes-tu Jesus?)

Oli: What? (Was? / Quoi?)

Angel: If you know Jeshush, you must love Jeshush, so do you love Jeshush? (Wenn du

Jesus kennst, musst du Jesus lieben, also liebst du Jesus? / Si tu connais Jesus,

tu dois aimer Jesus. Alors aimes-tu Jesus?)

Oli: Well, he is dead. (Der ist doch tot. / Mais il est mort.)

Angel: Yes, he died on the cross for our sins. (Ja er ist für unsere Sünden am Kreuz gestorben. / Oui, il est mort au croix pour nos péchés.)

Oli: He died 2000 years ago for the sins you do today? (Er ist vor 2000 Jahren für die Sünden gestorben, die Du heute begehst? / Il est mort depuis 2000 ans

Angel: What? (Was? / Quoi?)

Oli: Nothing. (Nichts. / Rien.)

Angel: And you know that he will come back and save us? (Und du weisst, dass er

zurück kommt um uns zu retten? / Et tu sais qu'il retourne pour nous sauver.)

Oli: Will he really? (Im ernst? / Sérieux?)

Angel: Yes! So do you love him? (Ja! Also liebst du ihn? / Oui, alors tu l'aimes?)

Oli: Who? (Wen? / Qui?)

Angel: Jeshush?

Oli: Yes (arrrrrrggggghhhh)

Angel: Do you know Mary? (Kennst du Maria? / Connais-tu Marie?)

Oli: No.

Angel: She is the mother of Jeshush (Sie ist Jesus' Mutter / Elle est la mère de Jesus.)

Oli: I don't know her. (Ich kenne sie nicht. / Je ne la connais pas.)

Angel: She had Jeshush in Bethlehem and then the three kings came. You don't know

about that? (Sie hat Jesus in Bethlehem geboren und dann kamen

die drei Könige. Wusstest du das? / Elle a eu Jesus à Bethlehem. Après les trois rois

sont venus. Tu savais ça?)

Oli: Three Kings? I don't know them. (Drei Könige. Kenne ich nicht. / Trois rois.

Angel: They brought myrrhy, insence and gold to Jeshush. (Die brachten Jesus Myrrhe,

Weihrauch und Gold. / Ils ont apporté myrhe, l'incence et l'or à Jesus.)

Oli: Nice. What did Jesus do with the gold? (Gut. Was hat denn Jesus mit dem

Gold gemacht? / Bien, et il a fait quoi, Jesus, avec l'or?)

Angel: I don't know. (Ich weiss nicht. / Je ne sais pas.)

Oli: So how did Jesus look like? (Wie hat den Jesus ausgesehen? / Il était

comment Jesus?)

Angel: Like on this picture over there. (Wie auf diesem Bild dort drüben. / Comme sur

cette image là-bas.)

Oli: Oh, he was white. I thought he was dark, maybe like you. (Oh, er war weiss, ich

dachte er hätte dunkle Haut gehabt, vielleicht so wie du. / Oh, il était

blanc, je pensais qu'il avait la peau foncée, peut-être comme toi.

Angel: No, he was white, just look at the picture! (Nein, er war weiss, schau doch das Bild! /

Non, il était blanc, regarde l'image!)
